Are You Humble?

9:27 AM

The meaning of humility that we always know - stepping backwards to give way to someone, looking down when in front of somebody, and thinking that others are always better than us, is not the same idea when we talk about being humble as a Christian.

Humility in the Christian way means that God wants us to be free from pride and arrogance, knowing in our souls and fleshes that we are not perfect, but through Him we can be complete and adequate. It also means giving love and compassion to someone despite of having lackness in life. Most importantly, being humble is when being comfortable with who you are as you live life in His name.

I always consider myself as a humble person, except when I am put into struggles that will test my patience. When this happens, the prideful and arrogant side of me comes out. The best scenarios would be when I get stuck in heavy traffic; I tend to shove off people out of my way, thinking that I am always privileged to go home earlier than them, in a much more convenient way than them.

Another example is when I ride the LRT. As it is always crowded, when I loose my patience I tend to push myself inside, neglecting whom I can hurt as I brush off my arms to others and push them away so I can get in.

Being prideful and arrogant has no place in God's sanctuary. I realized this more through the Gospel today, and I swear not to be like that again. I will improve my patience and be humble all the time as it is what God wants me to be.

Are you humble? At some point, do you get arrogant to someone? Do you also get to boast the good things you have or you think you are privileged to get?

It is time to assess how much humility we have in our lives. Through this way, we can get closer to God.

The most powerful message I have read today:

"We can never have enough of the glory of the Lord because we are reminded about who we are and keep us humble. Only the humble will be able to surrender everything to the grace of salvation. The proud and resistant of heart will never see God because they do not want to admit that they need Him to save them."

  1. For the longest time, I am not a humble person. Just the same, I believe that I know more than anyone, especially in areas I am very confident with. God has shown me the consequences of these actions though - how I can hurt people and myself if I keep up. During these times, let's all hold on to God tightly so that we can bring love to others as much as He does to us. We're a work in progress and we can do it! :)
