The light and the darkness

"Then God said: Let there be light, and there was light. God saw that the light was good. God then separated the light from the darkness." Genesis 1:3-4

For the past few days, I've been asked, "If God loves us, why are there challenges? He should have brought us all to heaven if He truly loves us" At first, I was perplexed; I didn't know how to answer. I went round and about the Creation then John 3:16. I was all over the place. It was until then when I decided to confide to my mom who is a catechist.

She explained that since the beginning, God wanted to show His love by creating the world. From the vast skies to the grains of the earth, His love manifested in each of these. With this Creation, God made Man to govern His work. Man exists because of this mission.

In today's reading, God created light to give life to the dark abyss He has seen. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night". Even if there is still darkness on earth, he created the moon and the stars to serve as our guide during these times.

Our life is also God's creation, just like what my mom has shared. We exist to spread God's love to everyone we encounter. Not everyday is a happy day; we have our fair share of "dark" days. And in the dark, when we look up, we see not only the moon and the stars. We see God.

Lord, may we always remember that You are everywhere and we are surrounded by Your love.
